Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are indeed a strongly growing technology, which are used ever increasingly in environmental monitoring, medical systems or robotics. IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee are being developed interactively, which are open and global radio net standards for reliable and economical wireless network with a minimum power loss over a short distance (Short-Range Wireless Networks, SRWN). The IEEE 802.15.4-2006 standard for Low rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) covers the physical layer and the medium access layer of wireless sensor net. It was particularly developed for transmission of small amounts of data with small power consumption, which is therefore suitable for construction of sensor networks and house/industry automation nets. In the framework of our project (Security and QoS aspects in ZigBee based wireless sensor networks), we have developed a simulation model of IEEE 802.15.4 in OMNeT++. In the scope of the diploma thesis, the efficiency of the protocol would be evaluated by simulation. A series of simulations with different parameter settings were carried out. And the analysis of the simulation results would demonstrate how the protocol parameters affect the efficiency.
