Abstract

Wireless sensor networks employ routing techniques known from ad hoc networks. In such a network, multihop wireless connectivity happens and topology may change drastically. Therefore efficient dynamic routing protocols are needed. In this work, two routing protocols, Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV) and Directed Diffusion, are simulated with ns-2 and implemented on the Mica2 sensor motes. Through comparing the performance of experiments with the results of simulations for the same protocol, I verified these protocols. Then the results of the experiments and the results of the simulations for these two protocols are compared. With these comparisons, the evaluation of these two protocols is given. The evaluation demonstrates that AODV has a better performance in routing efficiency and directed diffusion is particularly used for the sensor networks which needs the capability of querying data.
