With the invention of the automobile and the introduction of it into our society, our life and environment have changed significantly. Whereas in the past the covering of long distances took days or weeks, we can now travel the same route within a few hours. Automobiles have brought us many advantages and they have become an important component of our society. But the permanently growing volume of road traffic and the increasing complexity of street networks also leads to problems like traffic jams and accidents. These congestions reduce the efficiency of the infrastructure and also increase travel time, fuel consumption and air pollution [1]. Nowadays it has become more difficult to guarantee an efficient and secure traffic flow. Using the car becomes more and more inefficient. To solve these problems science and industry are working on several approaches. A fundamental idea are so called Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs). Here vehicles are able to receive and distribute informations regarding the traffic. An important part of VANETs are Road-Side Units (RSUs): Static devices on the road side which are developed to increase the quality of the communication between the vehicles. Recently several scientific studies have focused on the usage of Road-side units. These studies showed that with the usage of these devices the efficiency of message distribution could be increased significantly and that the positions of these units may have a great impact. However, many of these works are limited to the evaluation of Roadside Units. The impact of so called Stationary Support Units (SSUs) was mostly not taken into account. This thesis targets the analysis of the impact of RSUs and SSUs in a distributed VANET with simulations in a real-world scenario.
