Computer networks, ranging from dozens of computers in school networks up to several thousands in modern data centers, play an important role in our daily life. With the gain of an increased bandwidth and networks, connectivity also the threat of attacks is ascending. Therefore the protection of those and the recognition of such attacks is a vital component of today's computer science. It is possible to create an Intrusion Detection System which is able to undertake precisely those tasks by the use of the VERsatile Monitoring Toolkit. But when applied in high-speed networks, the required PSAMP-exporter-module does reach its limits. Starting by analyzing the original PSAMP-exporter and the Packet Sampling protocol, further considerations lead to the implementation of an optimized PSAMP exporter-module to use with VERMONT. Evaluations have shown a decrease of up to 70% of the needed CPU-time in comparison with the existing PSAMP-exporter modul. The PSAMP-exporter which has been developed within the framework of this thesis serves as an ideal basis for further optimizations regarding the application in high-speed networks.
