Description

Visible light represents a new communication opportunity for vehicular networking applications. Compared to RF-based communications, VLC offers robustness against jamming attacks, a smaller interference domain, and a huge license-free spectrum. On the other hand, in outdoor scenarios such as car-to-car communication, VLC is susceptible to ambient light and weather conditions.

In our research, we focus on the lower layers, working on circuit design and prototypes to enable vehicle-to-vehicle communication using real vehicular lighting modules, as well as on higher layers, working on medium access schemes in the vehicular domain. This work is accompanied by research on simulation techniques to assess protocols and concepts of Visible Light based Vehicular Communication.
