Dr. Jorge Torres Gómez

Short Bio

Jorge Torres Gómez is a Senior Researcher at TU Berlin specializing in wireless and molecular communications (MC). His research spans various areas, including channel modeling, novel detection mechanisms, testbed development, semantic communications with a focus on the Age of Information (AoI) framework, and machine learning methods for event localization and detection. He leads significant research initiatives, notably the “Internet of Bio-Nano-Things” project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), where he explores nanosensor-based systems for healthcare applications. Jorge also organizes workshops bridging technical and life science communities, fostering cross-disciplinary research at the intersection of biology and communication technologies. He is actively involved in academic program development, designing and teaching a master's course on MC and Nanonetworks.

As an IEEE Senior Member, Jorge regularly contributes to IEEE conferences and journals and serves as a frequent reviewer. He has been a special issue editor for the Nano Communication Networks journal and has delivered tutorials at major conferences such as Globecom, MeditCom, and NetSys, covering topics related to AI, AoI, and Nanonetworks. He has also co-chaired conferences, including ACM NanoCom 2024 (TPC co-chair) and the IEEE German Education Conference. Committed to advancing STEM education, he develops innovative teaching methodologies that integrate soft skills into the classroom.
